From Player to Leader

Legacy's Coaching and Athletic Administration career path introduces students to the principles of leadership and the entirety of what it means to be a coach — from creating schedules and recruiting, to designing practice plans and developing game strategies.

The program challenges students to grow beyond being a player to becoming a leader who shapes the next generation of athletes.

Coaches greatly influence their players and leave lasting impressions that can be applied throughout life. Our partnership with organizations like VYPE and i9 Youth Sports provides Legacy students with hands-on experience to develop in the coaching field.

Real Coaching, Real Experience

Hands-on coaching opportunities are made possible through Legacy's Sports Management Society (SMS) — a student-driven organization whose purpose is to provide working knowledge and experience for tomorrow's coaches and administrators. SMS students coach at Legacy's main campus, satellite campus, and partner programs.

Four-Year Course Sequence

Principles of Education & Training is an introduction to coaching. Students will effectively learn the process of equipping others with the tools, knowledge, and opportunities they need to develop themselves and become more effective.

Students will learn best practices in being a coach by preparing for hands-on learning experience. They'll study instructional design, practice planning, and how to communicate effectively with athletes of all skill levels.

Students will learn and experience the importance of developing others efficiently for their specified levels. Topics include child and adolescent development, motivation, and age-appropriate coaching techniques.

Students will experience hands-on coaching opportunities through Legacy's Sports Management Society (SMS). SMS students participate at Legacy's main campus, satellite campus, or additional partners — building a real coaching résumé before they graduate.
