Inside the Business of Sport

Legacy's Sports Media & Marketing career path takes students inside the inner workings of the sports industry. Students gain hands-on experience working real sporting events — maintaining statistics, announcing live games, managing team social media, coordinating event admissions and concessions, documenting events through photography, editing and posting event videos, and designing Legacy spirit wear.

It's real work. Real audiences. Real portfolios — built before graduation.

Spotlight: Market Day

One of the most popular events sponsored by the Sports Media & Marketing program is Market Day — a student-run pop-up marketplace where student entrepreneurs develop, market, and sell their own products to peers on campus.

Students set their own pricing, run their own promotions, and keep the profits. It's entrepreneurship, marketing, and finance — all in one unforgettable experience.

Four-Year Course Sequence

Students gain knowledge and skills in economies and private enterprise systems, the impact of global business, the marketing of goods and services, advertising, and product pricing. They analyze the sales process and financial management principles, applying academic knowledge to a variety of relevant business, marketing, and finance activities.

What comes to mind when you think of "marketing"? A familiar TV jingle? An ad on Instagram? There's no denying the power of the marketing industry — every year, U.S. companies spend approximately $200 billion promoting their products and services.

In this course, students learn how marketing campaigns, ads, and commercials are brought to life. They explore marketing careers and discover ways to be part of this exciting, fast-paced industry.

The world of sports and entertainment is never boring. This field offers careers that combine entertainment with traditional marketing — with a whole lot more glamour. Students explore basic marketing principles while diving into the multi-billion dollar sports and entertainment industry, learning how professional athletes, sports teams, and entertainers are marketed as commodities.

Students experience hands-on marketing opportunities through Legacy's Sports Management Society (SMS). SMS students work at Legacy's main campus, satellite campus, or additional partners — building a real-world portfolio for college and career.
